Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
